Tips for searching our databases

·At minimum, enter the first few letters of a surname or given name — a full exact spelling is not required. Entering just a few characters will return all records containing that string in the relevant field.

·Polish surnames are gendered. Surnames ending in -ski, -cki, -zki have feminine versions ending in -ska, -cka, -zka. To search for both, omit the final vowel — e.g. search Kowalsk to find both Kowalski and Kowalska.

·Our indexers record given names exactly as they appear in the original document — Polish (e.g. Józef), Latin (e.g. Josephus), or anglicized (e.g. Joseph). Search with just the first few letters to catch all variants.

·Results can be sorted by clicking any column header once the database loads.
