Last week, we kicked off a new year of PGSNYS meetings with the presentation, “Beginnings of Tribal Organization and the Polish State Based on Archaeological Research,” by professional archaeologist, Prof. Paweł Duma, from the University of Wrocław. Prof. Duma introduced some early theories regarding the tribal inhabitants of Poland after the fall of the Roman Empire, and explained how archaeological research is providing new insights into the origins and genomic identities of the Slavs.
Prof. Duma’s lecture offered fascinating context to enhance our understanding of our earliest ancestors, and our audience was enthusiastic! Comments from attendees included,
“The presentation discussed ethnic origins that predated the written record. It offered me perspective on my ancestral origins that I found helpful and I think about my background.”
“I’ve tried reading about some of this in the past but got stuck on the terminology. Professor Duma explained this real well and I understand it now.”
“The entire talk was fascinating.”
“The speaker was knowledgeable and engaging.”
The lecture recording is now available on our Meeting Recordings page for members to access.
