Thanks to all who attended our meeting last Thursday. The meeting was a Research Night with the theme, “DNA Cousins.” PGSNYS President, Julie Roberts Szczepankiewicz, kicked off the discussion with an overview of key concepts with autosomal DNA testing. Next, she explained how to work through one’s match list at Ancestry, tagging Shared Matches with Ancestry’s colored-dot system to identify individuals with common ancestry, and offering tips for building trees for matches when no trees are provided. The Shared cM tool was introduced for identifying most probable relationships based on a given amount of shared DNA. Following the presentation, live attendees and Zoom attendees broke off for further discussion, questions, and sharing tips. The lecture recording is now available on our Meeting Recordings page for members to access.
